My favorite part about my role today is having the chance to connect with guests and provide nutrition education in a multitude of ways, while also getting the chance to work along side some seriously talented chefs that teach me something new everyday and help elevate my knowledge as a dietitian from a culinary perspective. And they’re pretty fun to work with 😎

Embracing American Heart Month with a splash of red today ❤️ ✨ Today is Wear Red Day, and I’m celebrating with a heart-healthy smoothie that includes a secret heart-healthy ingredient…white beans!
These little gems not only add creaminess to any smoothie but also pack a powerful punch in the health department. Regularly indulging in legumes like beans can be a game-changer in reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease. Aim for at least 1/2 a cup or more daily to reap the benefits! ✨

July is all about eating local! Eating local offers benefits to you, the planet, and your community. Here’s why:
1. The average food travels approximately 1,500 miles to our plates, consuming a great deal of energy and producing carbon emissions. Local produce doesn’t have far to travel meaning less carbon emissions.
2. Eating local supports local farmers and producers which contributes to your community’s livelihood and creates a sustainable agricultural system in your community.
3. You want to eat produce closest to when it is picked at peak ripeness since that is when it has the most nutrients. Because local produce doesn’t have to travel far to get to you, you’re eating it closer to peak ripeness and getting more nutrients.
4. Working with produce that’s local and in season might inspire you to try something new! Like a fresh raspberry cake or tacos using oyster mushrooms as a meat substitute 😊

I had the chance to attend @todaysdietitian Symposium last week in Savannah, GA, and it was INCREDIBLE! I learned some cool new things in the nutrition world like the effects of prunes on bone health! (so cool) and how to edit recipes so they turn out just right 👩🏻🍳
I also met some incredible dietitians who made the week so much fun! And I got to learn a little bit about their roles and how they’re crushing it in the dietitian world 💪🏻
And I was lucky enough to be part of the Savannah Bee Company tour! The most incredible experience learning about how bees play a crucial role in the sustainability of our food system. I was especially impressed with how hard lady bees work (no surprise, the ladies are amazing 💁🏻♀️) And it’s so important for us to help them out!! So here are a few tips:
1. Leave out a water source for bees. If you have a shallow bowl of water with pebbles in it, it makes it easier for the bees to rest on the pebbles and drink.
2. Let your weeds grow and plant some bee friendly flowers and herbs. Bees love them. And make sure to reduce the use of pesticides for the little guys.
3. Support the beekeepers! Buy some local honey or donate to an organization dedicated to helping beekeepers.
